He strode purposefully towards the bar and leveled his gaze at NWT Nasti. Nasti greeted him as she would any other patron of the Great Hall Tavern, yet something inside of her knew there was something different about this particular man. After collecting his drink, the stranger went off to a corner table and kept to himself. WALKNDEATH burst into the Tavern toting a large package which he revealed to be a portrait he painted of NWT Nasti. Nasti claimed she never posed for this painting and WALKN finally admitted he painted it from his imagination. Soon, WALKNDEATH was taking commissioned orders from other Tavern patrons for their portraits to be painted. The most anticipated portrait by far has to be the one of the lovely Drow dancer, Dhaunae. While WALKNDEATH was accepting painting commissions, across the Tavern, Tar Ritan walked up to the portrait of NWT Nasti and decided to add his own "special" artistic touch. You'll have to come into the Tavern as the details of the changes can not be revealed in a publication such as this. Suddenly, NWT Nasti looked up and sensed rather than saw his presence at first. In the doorway stood a familiar form. Could it be? It had been sooo long! She blinked a few times and dashed around the bar. Arrow16382 had finally returned from his extended tour of duty. Rounds were ordered all around as everyone welcomed him back. It was with a heavy heart (and heavier baggage) that NightRuner entered the Tavern. After depositing his gear near the door and ordering up his final Feeb, he informed the stunned and silent patrons of his impending departure to parts unknown. Sadly, everyone toasted his good health and swift journey and wished for his hurried return. NightRuner gathered his gear and quietly took his leave. The tall, dark stranger watched the patrons with an amused sneer. Finally, he stood and walked to the center of the Tavern, commanding everyone's attention. He proudly stated that he was an assassin for hire and was in pursuit of one Tar Ritan, who had luckily left the Tavern unobserved. "What could Tar have done that would warrant a contract on his life?" the patrons whispered among themselves. Then everyone's face lit up as Zarlena entered the Tavern. NWT Nasti sensed trouble, and approached this stranger. She knew she had not seen him in her establishment before and began to question him. She found out his name was Khar Dharl and that he was interested in many things, particularly, NWT Nasti herself as he began to question her in return! As the night drew to a close, it seemed Khar had taken a definite liking to Nasti. But how did Nasti feel about this new stranger? Bolstered by the closeness of Fredericko (who everyone fondly calls "Freddy") Nasti wandered the Tavern, ever mindful of the exact proximity of Khar. Friday, February the Eleventh The evening started out normally enough, with SteveA3 exchanging witty banter. Blackcloth arrived with his usual flair and it was soon discovered that all was not right in the Realm. NWT Nasti received word that something was afoot and sure enough, the Great Hall Tavern had entered a void! Surely something was wrong, it said they were in the Tavern. They were all talking with one another....but where were they really?? TheZorker bounded into the Tavern with his usual zeal and quickly sensed that something was amiss. LeeV3 wandered in, somewhat dazed and couldn't remember how he got there. Suddenly, Tar Ritan burst through the door looking as though the Devil himself were in hot pursuit. He stumbled across the floor as SteveA3 boldly proclaimed he would hold whoever was chasing him off. As Tar looked around, he sensed something was not right. He turn and with an incantation, banished whoever (or whatever!) was following him and proceeded to make himself right at home. NWT Nasti heard a strange noise outside the Tavern and went to the door to investigate. Da Big Dog bounded through the open door and promptly staked out a claim for his ownership. NWT Nasti had never owned a dog, and thought it amusing while plying the doggie with treats. Arrow L, in a new outfit, Xeno Fobe and DA WOOK all came in shortly after one and other. NWT Nasti served each their favorite beverages and soon became aware of a persistent loud squeaking. Searching around she could find no probable cause for the noise and soon it was forgotten, as WALKNDEATH entered under the weight of yet another masterpiece. This time, twas lucky NW Arwen who's image he had thoughtfully captured and committed to canvas. SteveA3 proclaimed, "Now that's what I call a GODDESS!" While everyone was admiring WALKN's recent creation, in strolled a smug, Khar Dharl. NWT Nasti glanced around, searching for Tar Ritan, but again, he had gotten away unnoticed. NWT Nasti's new pet doggie took an immediate dislike to Blackcloth and promptly bit him on the arm. Blackcloth began complaining of contracting rabies from the mutt while SteveA3 and Nasti assured him that was not the case. Then her new pet decided to try and outstare WALKNDEATH. What was it was pets anyway? The Tavern got an unexpected treat as Hasrid entered with his unusual bag of tricks. First juggling then singing and finally playing a most unusual instrument. His "talents" with the wind instrument (that had the sound of a 1,000 cats screaming) brought tears to the eyes of those around. Nasti's new pet doggie did not appreciate the "music" and left holding its ears between his paws. NWT Nasti heard that noise again. The music had seemed to intensify it. She scanned the room and noticed Xeno crawling around looking for something. When asked he claimed to have lost his pet rat. Nasti screamed and jumped up onto the bar, refusing to come down until the rat had been located and deposited outside the Tavern. As Xeno searched the Tavern, a crash was heard in the Back Room. SteveA3, who had gone looking for a bottle of spirits, tripped over one of Hasrid's red balls and found Xeno's pet rat. Though mostly unharmed, Steve staggered back out into the Tavern. Once the rat was captured and Xeno took it home (to eat for dinner), the Tavern settled down to a "normal" Friday night filled with rowdiness and laughter. Join NWT Nasti in the Great Hall Tavern every Wednesday and Friday night from 10pm until Midnight. NEVERWINTER TOURS ----------------------------------- New to the realms? Check out this wonderful artwork done by HonorA, of the WMG! HELP! HELP! -------------------- (This weeks help comes from Sir Mekir of the BOP) In my travels through the realm, I have noted that many citizens seem to have great difficulty in mastering the finer points of the 'all powerful' Fireball spell. While this may be a boon to the makers of fire-proof undies, I thought I'd pass along a few tips that I've learned in mastering the use of this spell. First off, the Fireball has a very large range of effect. In your standard combat area of 49 sectors (7x7), a Fireball's effect can be felt in 37 of those sectors...only the 3 sectors at each corner offer a safe haven. Casting is rather simple when you are alone, but when others are around, you had better know what you are doing or you may lose some friends! The rules you need to know to cast a Fireball, and hit what you want, are quite simple. Starting with your current position, count 4 sectors, (horizontally or vertically), or 3 sectors on the diagonal. Cast the spell there, and you will never hit yourself. This same rule applies when you need to help a friend in trouble. Instead of starting your counting at your location, target your friend, and do your counting from their location. Another problem is where to cast the spell to get the maximum number of monsters when your positioning is not that great. Take the case of entering a battle when the trail bears to the left and all of the monsters are lined up along the top wall. Target 4 sectors to the left, 2 sectors up and 1 sector to the right and you will get the maximum effect. This same technique, with a few adjustments, will work no matter what your placement may be. Hope this helps out all you fire-bugs! :D ALL THIS AND FREE TIME TOO!? ------------------------------------------------ Do you have a question? Would you like to promote your Guild? TAVERN TALES ------------------------ Wednesday, February the Sixteenth As she was wiping down the bar in order to get ready for the evening's festivities, NWT Nasti's head snapped up as the doors to the Tavern burst open and Urgrue rushed in. Startled, she stood there mutely as he approached. It had been many moons since his smiling face had brightened up her life. Perhaps too many moons had passed for her to recapture the giddiness his presence had once instilled in her heart. Yet here he was, as if he had been here only yesterday, spilling forth tales of his most recent adventures. All too soon, the Tavern activity made it impossible for her to devote her sole attention to Urgrue, who as it happens, was only here in passing, bound out yet again for fame and adventure. His departure was lost as the talk of the Tavern turned towards everyone's recent journies into the sewers below the streets of Neverwinter. Tales of giant rats, and incredible giant golems guarding the entrance, circulated along with descriptions of treasures to be found by the brave and fortunate. Croyd recounted how he was bodily throw from the entrance of the sewers by huge iron and stone golems who had requested some sort of identifcation or tribute for passage into the bowels of the sewers. JamesKH518 told how the golems had thought it best if he had left, and dumped him back at the entrance. DragonHamr spoke of dieties while freely imbibing in NWT Nasti's delicious Feebs. Malkith, a drow, struck up a bargain with NWT Nasti to supply the Tavern with rare Drow wine, and promised that his merchant friends would return with the promised spirits. Nasti was suspicious since everyone knows, anything Drow dissipates in the light, yet she agreed to sample the wine. The chatter and scuttlebutt quickly turned towards the upcoming Neverwinter Festival, to be held on February 26th. All were eagerly awaiting the festivities and plotting their routes from booth to booth. When asked, Nasti informed them that she would be operating a kissing booth and each vowed, more eagerly than the next, that her's would be their favorite booth. While the Festival was still uppermost in their minds, JamesKH518 started an impromtu game of darts when Tar Ritan came bustling into the Tavern. Tar was quite upset to see James had loaded the darts into a light crossbow and none too calmly informed those nearby, that he had dodged two bolts earlier this morning. Tar leveled a gaze at James who quickly proclaimed that it was Malkith's crossbow, while handing it back to him. Nasti shifted uncomfortably as Tar told them that Khar Dharl had been hired to kill him. Nasti tried to look innocent when asked if she had noticed or talked to Khar Dharl, and she blandly explained that she noticed all good looking men that entered the Tavern. Suddenly, a crossbow bolt crashed through a leaded glass window shattering itself on Tar Ritan's breastplate, stunning the patrons to momentary silence. Nasti glanced at the broken window and frowned. Resolutely she walked over and begain to collect the broken glass and her wits. This had to end and soon. Tar drew his sword and charged out of the inn in hopes of finding the marksman. Malkith decided things were getting a tad too dangerous in the Tavern and also took his leave. As she finished dumping the broken glass into the dustbin, she noticed a small cut on her finger and began to try and stop the bleeding. As she looked up, a cloaked figure had entered the Tavern and was standing before her. Khar Dharl had entered and hung his cloak on a peg and rested his crossbow against the wall. Nasti snarled at him and began to berate him for breaking the window and trying to kill Tar Ritan. Khar shrugged unconcerned. Doing her best to ignore Khar, she turned her rigid back on him, ignoring his attempts at conversation. Finally, goaded into confrontation, Nasti told Khar that he was cold and heartless. Throwing her hands up into the air, Nasti finally asked Khar what he wanted of her. Calmly he replied, "Your love, Natasha." Shocked, she could only stand there and hold onto the bar for support. As Khar gathered his things, he turned one final time towards Nasti, who was still struggling to comprehend what had just happened. "Natasha, I love you," was all he said before he left. Friday, February the Eighteenth. When she awoke this morning, she had had a premonition about tonight. Something was going to happen. Something that was forever going to change the course of her life. While wiping down the bar, she thought about all the things that had happened recently in her life and mused over the prospects for her future. Khar Dharl slipped into the Tavern unnoticed and stood before her. Calmly, NWT Nasti looked up at him, then glanced meaningfully at the fixed window. Khar asked if she had seen Tar Ritan this evening, and Nasti replied that she had not, nor would she reveal if she even had. She was saved from further questioning as Fredericko bounced into the Tavern followed closely behind by Croyd. She devoted her attentions to serving the incoming crowd, always mindful of Khar's actions and glances. Neerdowell occupied himself with his scrolls as SteveA3 fixed himself a drink. Khar stopped Nasti asking her if she wished him to leave. Backed into a corner, she replied asking him, "Have I ever wished you to leave?" When pushed further, she revealed that she did not want him to leave, which obviously made him happy. Thus started the debate on love between Nasti, Khar and the rest of the patrons. Some how, some way, in the heat of the philosophical battle, Khar's hand came to rest over Nasti's heart, her own holding it close. It was to this tableau, Urgrue entered the Tavern. Nasti's premonition was coming true. As Freddy, Neer, Steve, Bro KB and the rest gawked, Urgrue raised his claymore as Nasti struggled to get her hand out of Khar's. Khar and Urgrue stared each other down in hostile confrontation. To furture anger Urgrue, Khar pulled Nasti up onto his lap, holding her still in his vice-like arms. SteveA3 gallantly tried to intervene but Nasti motioned him back. She looked from Urgrue to Khar and knew she had to do something. In a lightning flash move, Khar slipped from under Nasti, drawing his scimitar. Nasti landed on the floor in a heap, cursing men under her breath. Nasti implored Khar and Urgrue to put down their weapons since she hated violence in the Tavern. Calmly, she asked Steve to watch the bar for a moment as she asked Urgrue to join her in the back room. The sound of the door to the back room closing echoed a finality within the Tavern. Angry voice leaked out into the Tavern as Nasti and Urgrue discussed their future in the back room. Patrons looked around worriedly, often glaring at Khar. Finally, a pale Nasti and angry Urgrue emerged from the back room and all knew the outcome. SunKist offered Nasti her support, begging her not to become involved again, for her own marriage had been nothing more than a dream. Nasti assured her that she knew was she was doing as she looked meaningfully at Khar Dharl. With a parting warning to Khar, Urgrue finally let the matter rest, and wandered off to join Freddy near the hot tub. Malkith returned, as promised bringing Drow wine in ceramic bottles. Nasti lowered the lighting in the Tavern and poured some for any who wished to sample it. With a parting kiss to Nasti, Khar left in search of Tar Ritan, much to Nasti's dismay. She would have to do something to disarm that situation. But that was for another day. Zarlena and Darin Arc returned to the Tavern after a long journey and were warmly welcomed back. Huminnbird flitted from patron to patron whispering gossip in any Wednesday, February the Twenty-Third. She entered the Tavern and smiled at those who were already waiting. Khar Dharl looked up as she entered. He was in the middle of relating his recent attemps to kill Tar Ritan to any that would listen. NWT Nasti frowned and went behind the bar and began drawing ales. Dhaunae, entered the Tavern looking quite upset, then took her usual seat at the bar. She gravely announced that she must go back to her underworld for a time but would be back the beginning of April. Everyone decided to make Dha's last night in the Tavern something memorable. With a smile, Nasti presented Dha with the sacred can of whipped cream. Dha proceeded to pounce on Fredericko, spraying him unmercifully. Khar kept bringing up the sensitive subject of his contract on Tar Ritan's life. Aggitated, Nasti asked him what meant more to him, her or his stupid contract. He professed that nothing meant more to him than her, yet he must maintain his code of honor. Freddy piped in with "business is business, right Khar?" Angered, Nasti turned away as Khar donned his cloak and left. ITB Ice sat at the bar, watching the exchange between Nasti and Khar. Darin Arc strolled into the Tavern as Nasti had picked up her own can of whipped cream. Nasti smiled at Darin who quickly left the way he came in. Suddenly, a giant splash was heard as Freddy took a flying leap into the hot tub in order to avoid more of Dha's whipped cream. Nasti looked across the bar and smiled at ITB Ice. She reached over and ran her finger down his nose and laughed as he shivered. As Freddy and Dha ran around the Tavern, squirting each other with whipped cream, and jumping in and out of the hot tub, Ice got up the nerve to ask Nasti to dance. Nervously, Nasti agreed and together they walked to the center of the dance floor. Upon hearing the music, Dha stopped her pursuit of Fredericko and began her famous Drow dance. Shadofyre entered, and immediatly noticed Dha doing her Drow dance. He whipped out his katana and held it ready. Nasti exclaimed that there would be no violence in the Tavern and Shado put away his weapon. Unable to ignore the patrons any longer, Nasti regretfully left Ice on the dance floor. (And she hadn't stepped on his toes once!) As she was serving up another round, a friendly Huminnbird came hummmmmming into the Tavern. Luckily, Nasti had installed a feeder filled with nectar the little birdy loved. After everyone had been served, Ice again asked Nasti to dance. They took to the dance floor and tripped the light fantastic. As Ice twirled Nasti around and around, Malkith entered the bar, so again, the dancing was interupted. Nasti served Malkith his favorite drow wine, with an apologetic smile to Ice. Darin Arc rushed back into the Tavern and headed straight towards Nasti. He slipped behind the bar telling Nasti to take a break, and that he would cover the bar. Nasti smile thankfully to Darin and then glanced at Ice who was already on his feet waiting. Finally, they could actually dance to an entire song. Meanwhile, Huminnbird flitted from person to person whispering secrets in their ears. Nasti sensed something was wrong, as Ice whirled her around and around. She glanced over at Dha and noticed her staring at Malkith as he was leaving the Tavern. Dhaunae let out a great sigh and said she was nervous when other Drow were around. Nasti heard a crash behind the bar, as Darin was caught snooping around. He held up an item and asked Eowyn9 what he thought the gadget was. Finally, the time had come when Dhaunae had to depart. With hugs and kisses and well wishes from everyone, Dha walked out into the darkness. Nasti crossed the Tavern and stared into the flames in the hearth as she wiped hot tears from her cheeks. Ice walked over and gave her a hug from behind. "I'm really going to miss her," Nasti whispered. Freddy, also upset at Dhaunae's departure, couldn't stand to see Nasti in tears. He had to do something to bring back Nasti's smile. He quickly gathered up a can of whipped cream and squirted her. She grinned half-heartedly as she wiped the whipped cream off her nose and flicked it back at Freddy. Ice licked off a small bit of the whipped cream that clung to Nasti's cheek. Quickly, Nasti grabbed the can of whipped cream from Freddy and turned it towards Ice. She sprayed Ice unmercifully and then quickly dashed across the Tavern. Darin reached under the bar and started tossing cans of whipped cream to everyone and the biggest whipped cream war in Tavern history was waged into the wee hours of the morning.
