SOL Bard has earned the choice of 4 Pearls or Access to the GOH (Guild of Heroes). Keep up the good work! ;D <><><><><> <><><><><> The Summer Festival has come and gone for another year and once again I must say thank you to all the staff and players who participated. The Festival went without a hitch (except for a couple punts) and went very smoothly. I feel that it was the best run event that Neverwinter Nights has ever had. ;D Special thanks to Snowie, Events, Essex and Kel for keeping everything moving along nicely. When a Festival occurs without problems that you know that the folks running it are doing a fantastic job!! ;DD Once again, thank you, the players, for participating in the grandest of events which had at least 400 folks participating. ;) The official results will be posted as soon as I receive them. <><><><><> <><><><><> Fireball Booth Results - 6/16 11pm At the request of his Lordship, Lord Nasher, I set off to Vilnask to set the stage for a test of the mystical abilities of those spellcasters who fought in Neverwinter's name. Lord Nasher was curious at their level of power, concerned that if it would be enough to turn the forces of darkness that was encroaching on our beloved city's borders. I was to select the most powerful mage and report to his Lordship with the information. I chose Vilnask for it's isolation, knowing there would be no innocent lives lost in the mystic fury I was about to bring to the once thriving town. Once the call was out, the most powerful magic users from near and far arrived at my location in droves. I selected only 15, those whose mystic power I could feel coursing through their bodies. I greeted them all and told them of their task. They were to blast me with their most potent fireballs, not once but twice! There was mixed flood of reactions from the sea of faces before, from shock to wicked glee. I assured them all, however, that I was a mage of no small standing myself and could survive even their most fiercest attack! Thus the contest began, each of the 15 mages hurling their flaming balls of fury and destruction at me. A few unfortunate monsters, mostly foul troll scavengers seeking fresh meat and easy prey, were foolish enough to wander into the area of the test. They paid dearly for their mistake, their hunger lost along with their lives in the scorching fury of the spells unleashed. The contest went on for about an hour and half and in the end one mages' power impressed me above all others. Nor Silky struck me with two fireballs of the likes I have never felt before. She would do the mages of Calisham justice with her skill. Though I said nothing to the assembled mages, I nearly lost my life to her, so powerful were her attacks. A quick prayer to Tyr healed my wounds. I thanked the gathered mages, especially Nor Silky, and headed back to Neverwinter. I presented my information to Lord Nasher, who seemed pleased with my report. "The city and lives if its citizens are in good hands, my Lord," I assured him. "Indeed, young Morgan," The seasoned adventurer replied, "Perhaps we should try to recruit this Nor Silky." Remembering Nor Silky's power and ability, not to mention her beauty, with a wry smile I responded, "It would be my sincere pleasure to try, my Lord." :) Mini Booth Type:Fireball Booth Player Winner:Nor Silky Prize Won:4 pearls and 1 hour of online time. -- NWA Morgan <><><><><> <><><><><> Hold Monster Booth Winners - 6/18 Held the hold monster booth at 15,10 floodblest at 10am today. Low clouds filtered the soft glow illuminating Neverwinter, not as brightly as day yet well enough that a torch was not truly needed to travel the city's streets this eve. A cool pleasant breeze off the Sea of Swords had begun shortly after sunset and was blessing the evening with its embrace. All in all, it was a glorious night to be out of doors. Many of Neverwinter's citizens had taken to the streets in high spirits, laughing and joking amongst themselves, drinking a wee bit perhaps... enjoying the temperate weather. Here and there a lantern twinkled, but for the most part no illumination save the moon's rays was needed. As if drawn together by an irresistable force, the citizens began to gather upon the green of the Square before the Palace. Spreading their cloaks upon the grass, pulling baskets of food and wine, ale and mead, they settled down together to enjoy the evening. Soon, it was well past midnight and still the folk of Neverwinter in good spirit (perhaps having consumed a great deal of spirits in fact) laughed and danced upon the green. There was a euphoria in the air, a contagious joy of life and living that none wished to lose by leaving. Lord Nasher, not immune to the moon's spell either, observed the happiness of his people from the Palace. Soon, he had summoned his scribe and sent a herald forth into the Square to announce that, in celebration of Neverwinter's 5th Anniversary and the upcoming Summer Festival, he would declare this evening in honor of Sune, the goddess of love, passion and beauty! As the folk from the palace began delivering food and wine to the gathered throngs, musicians and minstrels caught the theme of the evening and began to sing songs of romance & tell tales of love. Guardsmen hurried to four places in the city even as the herald announced that Lord Nasher would sponsor a test of will and determination. He invited the citizens to test themselves in honor of Sune and promised a reward to those that resisted the fire-haired goddess' charms. (Charm Person booths, resist 3 charm person spells - win 4 pearls!) When all was done, over 140 people had tried their fortunes in resisting the whims of the goddess of love! Thanks to all who participated and congratulations to those who won! Willo Clovyr had disappeared. I gathered up some daring adventurers that I met in Neverwinter to go on a search for the missing tool maker. Among the daring party was Gaodahl,Rcf4sharks,Lewis39,Srsomerday, Thantalis and a dog named Phydoue to follow the scent. Along the way to Vilnask we encountered some creatures who tried to interfere with our search, but the mighty band dispatched them all quickly. Phydoue cuaght Willows scent, and we followed it. A swarm of Stirges surrounded us, and one even started feasting on Lewis39, but the troop dispatched them all and moved on. Phydoue left the party, perhaps to dig up some buried treasure, and Srsomerday followed. The remaining party continuted, and poor Gaodahl died in a stampede of mamoths. Soon, the remaining three of us came across a mage with a large band of followers of every sort. They attacked, but were no match and soon we had found Willo who had been held captive, and he rewarded each of the party with a new dagger of striking! Huzzah! The call rang out across the realms--brave adventurers were needed to accompany NWA Nabu on a dangerous tour of duty. On the dock beside Castle Never, five hearty heroes joined Nabu and accepted the challenge: Daggerm69, Flnmcquaig, J1j2j3, Rcf4sharks, and Nikkimarc1. "Ah, three fighters, a ranger, and a paladin," commented Nabu approvingly. "A formidable fighting force indeed!" Nabu explained that Lord Nasher had asked him to lead a search party far south of Neverwinter to Crossergate. Several caravans were reported missing there, and Nasher wanted an investigation to resolve the mysterious disappearances. The party exited the south gate of Neverwinter, eager for adventure. They traveled through Southwall to Vilnask, dispatching of some marauding wolves and giant kampfults along the roadway. While resting at the Vilnask Inn, Nabu suggested that the party visit the nearby home of a known informant. "This man has provided information to Lord Nasher's guards in the past," Nabu explained. There they encountered the man; however, oddly, he demanded that the adventurers leave immediately! Sensing something amiss, the party decided to stay and investigate the premises. In an adjoining room, they found a hidden band of thieves and their pet ice hound! J1j2j3 leaped to the attack, swinging mighty blows that swept through the thieves! The adventurers were victorious, and the grateful informant gave them a valuable clue: a mysterious organization was rumored to have a secret lair in Crossergate...its door concealed by an illusion! Buoyed by their success, the party headed south toward Crossergate. Alas, they were beset by evil sorcery! The foul punt monster grabbed J1j2j3 and vanished with him! A bit dismayed, the band of adventurers resolved to continue onward. "Tis a most dangerous mission," commented Nabu gravely. After battling roving packs of wolves and ice hounds along the roadway, the party was relieved to finally reach the Crossergate Inn, where they rested and healed their wounds. Refortified, the adventurers visited the mansion of the Lord Protector of Crossergate. He greeted the party and told them of unusual happenings at night where caravans disappeared! Fearing some dire plot, the Lord Protector implored the adventurers to investigate. Speaking on behalf of his comrades, Nabu promised to help, if they could. Searching near the Crossergate Diverse & Curious Items Emporium, the party found a secret door! Inside, the adventurers discovered a passageway. "This must be the lair that the informant spoke of!" cried Nabu. Following the winding passageway, the intrepid party battled a monstrous menagerie of guardians. Finally, they came to a chilling sight--a temple of the evil god Bane! Exploring the eerie chambers, the adventurers came to a sealed door where they could hear dark, mystic chanting from within! Nabu whispered, "This may be our ultimate battle...let's prepare!" After casting magical wardings, the bold heroes burst open the door and attacked! An evil cleric, surrounded by warriors and ice hounds, whirled to confront the party! "In the name of Bane, kill these defilers!" shouted the cleric. Swords clashed, arrows flew, and magic filled the air. Then Rcf4sharks struck a killing blow to the evil cleric of Bane, and the party was victorious! Each adventurer found a scrawled note wherein the cleric explained his evil plans. "Return this note to Lord Nasher in Neverwinter," said Nabu, "and his lordship will reward you!" As the party headed back north toward the City of Skilled Hands, they were met along the roadway by a striking figure--a paladiness dressed in white, the captain of Lord Nasher's guards, NW Snowie! Happily, the band of adventurers related to Snowie their tale. "Lord Nasher will be pleased," commented Snowie. She accompanied the party on their journey back toward Neverwinter and, when a band of spies leaped out from behind trees to attack, Snowie wielded her gleaming frost brand sword beside the adventurers. Safely back in Neverwinter, Nabu thanked the brave heroes for assisting him. "Remember to present the scrawled note to Lord Nasher at Castle Never! Your service to the realms shall be rewarded! Farewell, friends!" And so, the heroes parted company, each seeking new adventure. <><><><><> <><><><><> *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* NEVERWINTER CALENDAR *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Keep an eye peeled for those Mini-Booths because they will appear when you least expect in different areas of the Realms! Keep up the good work! ;D ElvinPride's Quest - Part 1 (submitted by: ElvinPride) The Quest To NeverWinter The night had begun to lower its dark veil as ElvinPride alit onto the NeverWinter docks. The thieves and rogues had begun thier nightly vigil, preying on those still out on the streets. The slender, young elf was unsure why he, above all others in his homeland; had been chosen to come here. The Elders back home have thier reasons, he had been told; and had it not been for the terrible visions he saw in his dreams, Elvin would never have believed that. WAR !! EVIL !! MONSTERS !! Those nightmares still haunted the young woodsman. "The forest back home was nothing like this!", he thought, as he made his way across the dock, headed for town. All eyes were upon him as he strode quickly towards the nearest inn. Humans, Dwarves, Halfies, Elves,....all were present here in NeverWinter, ElvinPride noted; feeling very uncomfortable in the crowd. Suddenly, a soft voice whispered behind him. "Vedui', Elf !". ElvinPride turned to acknowledge the voice. An elven lass as beautiful as any, stood behind him near an alleyway. The hood of her cloak was down, revealing her silvery-blond hair; a smile as bright as the morning sun; and eyes that sparkled like stars. " I am Serrah," she said smiling, "The Elven people need your help and cooperation. There is much evil afoot.... I know you are one that has been sent to help! ". ElvinPride thought deeply. "Is this a ploy by some would-be thief ? How would she know why I am here?". Hmm....."Why am I here anyway?". Confused by his thoughts, the wood-elf gazes into the eyes of Serrah. There he saw hope...hope for all Elvenkind! "This must be my quest !". Turning to Serrah, "Vedui'. I am ElvinPride of Brass Crown. You have my help and support!", he replies. A look of relief crosses the face of the elven lass. "Well met, Pride! Now, rest. You look exhausted from your journey, you poor dear! Meet me outside the Red Mage Inn at sunrise. We have much to do! Good night.". She smiles and again covers her head with the hooded cloak. Elvin watches as she turns and walks away into the shadows. Excited about meeting another of his race; the young elf scurries towards the inn to rest. ElvinPride Oversleeps The morning sun had already crept into the window, awakening Elvin with a start. "Ohhh, Noo!!!," he curses out loud, tossing aside the bedsheets. "I am late! I promised Serrah that I would meet her hours ago!". He shakes his head contemplating his dilemna. "ElvinPride, you stupid elf! You have really messed up this time!". With that, he quickly dons his battle gear, snatches up his weapons, and bolts down the stairs. "INNKEEPER!!!!! Any messages for me?", he bellows out, as travelers' heads in the lobby turn to his loud voice. The innkeeper frowns and gestures for the overexcited elf to keep his voice down. "Yesss.....An elven maiden stopped by........Serrah, I think her name be. Said she will find you in town.", shrugging his shoulders. "Then she left.", grunts the innkeeper, returning to his work. "Ohhh..She WAS here!", whines Elvin, shaking his head in disgust. The dismayed traveler slips the innkeeper several platinums, then runs for the door; hoping he hadn't missed out on his quest. The Guild Hall Elvin walked the dusty streets of NeverWinter for much of the day in search of the maiden known as Serrah. Disappointed, and feeling alone, he began his trek back to the inn. A grove of trees caught his eyes as he trod along the edge of town. With a sigh, he figured a rest would be in order. Sitting under an enormous willow, he uncaps his canteen of water, swallowing long and hard; the refreshing liquid inside. 'Twas only then that he saw the door nearby. Covered partly in foliage, disguising the entry, the massive oak door beckoned to Elvin. Arising from his resting spot, the elf's curiosity got the better of him as he walks toward the door. "Hmm..this reminds me of the Elder's hall back home", he mutters, reaching for the door handle. Wondering what was inside, he pulls the door open. "TCS GUILD HALL" read a sign immediately inside. The wood-elf steps slowly into the guild hall, admiring its beauty. "This is so beautiful!", thought Elvin; having never entered a guild hall before. Voices and laughter originate from beyond the long hallway, which gradually slopes downward. The cautious elf proceeds to investigate, slowly; wondering if he should have entered at all. The hallway houses many doors, coming to an end near a large chamber. Hiding next to a chamber door, Elvin peers into the room. Many elves of all races congregate inside, intently listening to a Sea-Elf speaking. Elvin gasped in surprise, having never seen a fabled Sea-Elf until now. "......It was a shark. I drew my sword and advanced with caution...", rambled the blue-skinned elf. ElvinPride stood in the doorway, listening intently. (Elves are always entranced by a good tale). Partway through the yarn, the storyteller's piercing black eyes turn toward Elvin's hiding spot. "Well,well.....", the blue-skinned one begins, "Council members! It seems we have a visitor!!". Elvin takes a half-step back, unsure of what to say or do. "Enter, Elf!!", boasts the Sea-Elf. Elvin steps into the chamber, trembling. "TCS Aquaic, meet ElvinPride of Brass Crown.", interjects a female voice. Elvin recognizes this as Serrah, who stands and introduces Elvin to the others. "Vedui', extremely pleased to meet you all!"' beams the young Elvin, a smile extending from ear to pointed ear. "Serrah, I am sorry about this morning. I overslept.", he apologizes, looking down at his feet. " 'Tis alright Elvin. You were tired. I could tell last night.",she says with a smile. Quite relieved, ElvinPride of Brass Crown reaches into his backpack, retrieving a flask of wine. "This small token I wish to share with all my brothers and sisters!", he declares. "It is the finest from the makers in Horsehound Rapids, near my home." The flask is opened, mugs are filled, and the stories continue late into the night. Thunder Wing (submitted by: Zindio) The morning sun's first golden streaks illuminated the lower pasture in Tri-Boar. Movement could be detected in the high grass by the rear fence. A purple beret was the only thing visable. Zindio, the half-elf Protectorate cadet, was busy in the pasture digging a hole, four by four by four. He lined the bottom of the hole with flat slate rocks, then lowered a large cheese bag into the hole. "Ah, " he thought, " the finest blackberries, yellow plums, herbs and sugar cane I could find. This batch of wine will be perfect." Covering the hole with straw and sticks, Zindio vowed to return in a week to finish this latest batch of brewed essence of the Gods. "Even me friend Xvandor will smack his lips in delight with this batch." he mused. Straighting up, stretching, checking the sword hanging on his back in its scabbard, Zindio strode for the inn. Alan Goy was at the table in the corner when Zindio entered. Looking at the pale face Zindio said, " A fight ye've been in and ye dont look so good me friend." "Aye", replied the stranger, " I thinks I've been poisoned or something." "Where were ye?" "Nest of wyverns." gasped the stranger. "Aye"' said Zindio, "Ye've been poisoned. Leave now and go to the Temple of Tyr, they will cure ye." Alan thanked him and stumbled out to the west. Zindio thought about the matter and decided to follow. Inside the Temple Zindio found the stranger weak but cured. The conversation came around to what Alan Goy was doing in this section of the Realms, he was looking for kraken passes to the sewers and a ticket for the Ferry to traverse the ocean. He spoke of a secret door, entrance to these things he was seeking. Zindio remebered just such an area north of the inn, full of beasts that were difficult for one person to defeat. "Help me gain entrance." Alan said. "Aye." said Zindio without hesitatation. As the second door was entered, they were jumped upon by stirges, displacer beasts, and giants. All were killed, it was then the secret door was discovered at the back of the room. Through the door they both went and were attacked by trolls and ugly fat blobs of evil. Zindio woke at the gate, esp'd Alan, and told him he'd be at the inn. Half way to the inn a crashing of trees and bushes told Zindio he was in trouble. With only several spells and a weakened condition he was sure he'd be bouncing off the gate again. Griffons set out around him and Zindio prepared to take several with him when he went. The first died with a mighty swing of Luthyen's brownie slicer(+3Bastard sword), a stink cloud sent two more into coughing fits, checking his bag, a MU scroll was found with two more clouds, deploying these stratigicly, Zindio managed to gain some time and suceeded in killing the aggressors. Wiping the sweat from his eyes, he moved again toward the inn. Suddenly in the bushes to his left he heard what seemed like thunder. "No rest for meself." he thought, and prepared to fight yet another battle. Walking cautiously to the bush in question Zindio's sword was coming down for a kill when he stopped in mid strike. Incredously he peered into the bushes. There beating little wings, beak snapping, claws digging, was a small griffon kit. "Nasty little critter ain't ye." Softly Zindio spoke the language of the Sylvankind Elf from his homeland. The small beast calmed and looked up, still digging his talons into the ground. "If I kill ye now someones life or horse later will be saved, but since that can only happen if ye dont learn manners, I'm going to spare ye and teach ye those manners." The young kit looked up and snapped it's bronze beak several times as if to say"Give me a chance and I'll tear your heart out pointy ears." Grinning, Zindio reached into his pack and brought out one of Luthyen's brownies from the everlasting tin she had given him long ago. Offering the morsel carefully to the young monster Zindio was rewarded by a lightining snap of its beak, and a ragged tear on his hand by razor sharp talons. Satisfied that the funny looking stranger was going to keep his distance, the kit gobbled down the tidbit. Looking up at Zindio its demeanor was apparant that it wanted more. Still speaking Syvankind, Zindio gave the young beast more. "Strong wings ye have for one so young, Thunder Wing I'll call ye. Now, the moment of truth, ye have to come with me Thunder Wing, but ye have to be still, too many here won't appreciate the youngster of those that have killed so many citizens and livestock living amongst them." With careful deliberation and still speaking the magic language, Zindio picked up the young griffin and tucked it away inside his armor. Thunder Wing, sensed no harm was to come to him at this time and settled down with a limited amount of figiting, after all this funny looking beast had given him something for its stomach that filled a void long standing for Thunder hadn't eaten for a number of days. It thought perhaps there was more of that good tasting stuff. Zindio picked his way back to the inn, settled down for the night and resolved to keep this critter safe at least till it could fend for itself. Region Report (submitted by: PanzerMagi) Field Agent: Panzer Magi, Crusader of the Realms Region:Neverwinter City Day 1 - Ate bad fish at Strider's. Punched Strider in the jaw when he said, "Well met, stranger!" I've been going there for overpriced fish for nearly 30 years, and every day he still says in that loud but friendly voice, "Well met, stranger! Pull up a chair and join me in some songs! Rest and relax for 1 measely platinum piece. Is it a deal?" I just couldn't take it any more. So I belted him a good one, got in a fight with his girlfriend, and threw up on the floor. Not a very auspicious begining for my assignment, I fear. Day 2-Visited Matagas. Bedding was filthy. Room service terrible. Still sick from the bad fish. Day 3-Stayed at Daglow's. Hole in roof. Woke up with a cold. Day 4-Bugs... Bugs crawling... Under skin... Must make them leave... Must be pure... Ale will make me pure... Ale will cure what ails me... This I know to be true, for the little bird told me... Nobody will listen, though... It's because they're united against the bird... But the bird will be victorious... The bird shall be all... Hail the bird.... All hail the bird... For the Bird is Mighty, and the Bird is vengeful... Tremble, and hear him flap. Day 12-Woke up filthy and cold next to the sea on the docks, as two sailors carrying big overstuffed bags on their shoulders passed me. Can't remember anything since my stay in Daglow's. Noticed a strange entry in my journal marked as Day 4. Do not recollect scribing it. Day 13-Stayed at Red Mage. Paid enormous bill charged to me by my brother Zapthief. Day 14-Stayed at Mancuso's. Mancuso welcomed me to Neverwinter. I just grunted. It was the three hundredth time I'd signed the guest book there. You'd think I'd no longer need to be welcomed to the city. Day 15-Decided to track the Neverwinter River. Noticed that it flows magestically past Lord Nasher's Palace towards the sea, with its warmth rising in festering waves from the deep blue water. Chatted with some Gnomes concerned about pollution levels in the unnaturally warm water, was shown something called an "algae bloom", caused by the warmth and nutrient run-off from local farming operations. Signed a petition to get them to leave me alone. Noticed that the river curves off to the West at 2,15, and saw some cliffs in the distance between which the warm, algae filled waters flow into the endless ice-cold sea of swords. Also noticed that the footing is quite slippery. Went swimming, involuntarily. Swallowed mouthful of water. Days 16-115- Rested in Mancuso's to recover from my exposure to the river water. Felt a little better. Day 116-Got intoxicated, and was arrested after trying to break Arwen's door down. That large oak door is securely locked, I can definitely say. Day 117-Went to the Neverwinter Indoor Gardens. Admission was free. Five newbie couples were necking inside. Left quickly. Day 118-Volunteered to assist with Nasher's Census. Only found eight private residences at 2,4; 2,3; 4,1; 3,1; 2,1; 4,5; 8,3;. Nobody came to the door at any of them. Expressed concern to Lord Nasher about possible overcrowding, as Neverwinter's last census population stood at 17,000. Was told to leave his office immediately. Day 119-Spent the day sitting in the great hall, wondering why nobody ever visits it any more. Decided it wasn't so great, after all. Day 120-Shopped all day. Only the general items shop ever bothered to say good day to me. The rest all got down to business immediately. Signed a petition protesting the decay of civil society. Day 121-Stopped in to say hi to the trainer. He asked me if I'd like to advance a level, then said that I didn't have enough experience. But he did say that I was making great progress. Stood at 13,7 afterwards, marveling at the view to the West of the great plaza of Neverwinter, the greedy corrupt temples of the Healer's Syndicate lining either side, and the ancient arbor smack dab in the center. Tried to raise the rabble to revolt against the price fixing of the local temples in their services, sold a cure blindness for 10 gold pieces in an attempt to undercut the syndicate. Had my fingers broken, and skull cracked. Refused to buy a cure from the temple. Wound festered. Bought cure. Day 130-Fingers & skull healing nicely. Day 131-Marveled at the ancient trees at 10,7. They're older than Neverwinter itself, putting their age at well past 5 years. Day 132-Stood before the entrance at Lord Nasher's palace at 7,7. Was arrested for loitering. Day 133-Went to see one of the famous water clocks of Neverwinter they talk about in the brochures. But all I could see was the wall. Day 134-Saw a number of Royal Guards patroling the passageway at 3,7. Only the gods know why. Everyone knows you can't trig in Neverwinter. Day 135-Was arrested for touching at 5,7. Day 136-Marveled at the collection of tiny jeweled daggers known as "Neverwinter Knives" that reside in a sealed case on the wall at 6,8. Compared them to my "enchanted mace". Day 137-Looked at the royal badge of the city of Neverwinter - a sideways M with points to the right connecting 3 white snowflakes depicted on a shield attached to the wall at 2,8. Was arrested on suspicion of attempting to forge the royal badge of Neverwinter. Warned that my record was indicating me to be a habitual offender. Day 138-Visited Lord Nasher in his office. Refused his assignment. He promptly asked me to leave, and said goodbye as he shut the door in my face. Sol Metria --I'm a Sol...not a Saint!-- Where Oh Where is Willo? (submitted by: Vet Vic) The adventurer stands outside of the inn feeling refreshed after a meal of mutton and stew and enjoying several tankards of ale. He stretches his body flexing one, way and then the other, his lean muscles rippling with power. His deep brown eyes survey the streets and he detects several small skirmishes being waged but the monsters are weak and the young adventurers are getting valuable experience. He smiles to himself, knowing the dangers that await these new warriors as they gain the valuable experience and training needed to be a full warrior of the realm. One of this warrior's true joys is helping to train the new adventurers and pleading them on quests for the mayor as they develop and then meeting them as when they are full warriors of the realm. Some have even become members of his guild. As he contemplates his travels for the day he is approached by a group of such young trainees. Having been trained by him they are comfortable asking for help and they excitedly begin to talk at once. Vet Vic holds up his hand and there is immediate quiet out of respect for their teacher.. "Now one at a time, I can't understand you." He points to young Egor12, "Tell me what's this all about," he commands. The young mage takes a breath and launches with an excited voice. He is only in his second level of mage training and already showing remarkable adeptness at his chosen field of warrior specialization. His intelligent face shows the promise of a powerful and compassion wizard. "We have just come from the palace. He is concerned about the disappearance of the realms leading weapon and tool maker Willo Clovyr." "I have heard of this Willo and actually have been to his shop. This be the same one that lives Vilnask?" he asks. A second young warrior jumps in barely able to control his excitement. He is a young paladin in his third level of training. He is a large man, powerfully built and quick to jump into a fight or to aid a friend regardless of the odds. He has yet to learn his limitations. "That be the same one, the mayor has asked us to investigate the disappearance but he also said we should take at least one full warrior since it may be very dangerous. We thought of you right away". His face is flushed with excitement. Vet Vic looks at each of the young faces. There are four in all, the mentioned above, a young fourth level cleric and a first level magic user/fighter/thief. He thinks on what the mayor has asked of these young warriors and knows the likelihood of them returning unharmed is almost impossible alone. "Twill be a dangerous journey. A disappearance in these days means that evil is involved. I don't thin yer ready fer this and you should be ashamed of yerselves taking a new trainee on such a quest!" He tries to dampen their spirits but he knows it is a losing cause. "Lord Nasher has asked this of us and with or without you it is our duty to try!" the young paladin quickly replies. "All right, all right it will be good experience but I'm afraid that you will all be licking wounds before we are finished but ye have answered as true warriors of the realm should." He smiles and them and prepares to take them on the quest. Another young second level magic user is found and Egor notices that his spell book is full of empty pages and no spells can be memorized. he goes back to the great training hall to get a new book. The small group listens to the warnings of the guard at the gate in Southwall but are allowed to leave as they are on a mission from the mayor. The soldier's dire warnings do little to dim the young warriors exuberance. As they leave Southwall, the gate makes an eerie and unsettling sound as it clangs shut behind them with a sound of finality. The adventurers start down the well marked trail to Vilnask, stopping occasionally to visit with other travelers. The day is pleasant with a clear blue sky and a light breeze. They make good time and are enjoying pleasant conversation when Vet Vic motions for silence. In the distance a strange howl fills the air. It is joined by a chorus of other voices rising in a crescendo of noise. Accompanying the sound is a loud crashing sound in the underbrush. The warriors form a defensive ring as the sun glints off their weapons as they are pulled out of their sheaths and from hidden places in the cloaks. The weapons are as varied as the warriors themselves and they seem to fit their personality. The strong, young paladin unsheathes a mighty two handed sword, its blade flashing in the midday sun, the young mage readies his spell book and arms himself with a magic dagger of striking and the cleric pulls out flail and begins to pray. Vet Vic pulls a magic long sword from its scabbard and the troop is ready fro whatever may come. A large pack of wolves crashes from the dense foliage, their tongues lolling out of their mouths from the run. Their eyes have a half dazed look to them and they begin to circle the warriors, looking for a weakness. Suddenly, a large male attacks the young paladin and the battle is on. It lasts only a couple of minutes but it feels longer as weapons flash and missiles are thrown. The young warriors maintain their composure and the wolves are easily defeated. They wipe off their weapons on the coats of the slain animals and begin to celebrate when they feel large wooden arms wrapped around two of the members of the party. A lightening bolt catches the treemen unawares and they drop their prey as they burst into flames. The close brush with death is a sobering reminder to all of the warriors to constantly remain on their guard They enter Vilnask without any further skirmishes and move to the inn for a quick repast and a discussion of what lies ahead. Lord Nasher's guards patrol the area so the streets are fairly safe. The young mage explains a little background on the area as this is his hometown. "An explorer named Vilnask found silver, iron and some mithril nearby. The town is primarily a mining town although several metal workers have taken up residence. There is a makeshift militia of miners and the city is run by a town council." They decide to talk to the distraught spouse of Willo. They find her crying in the shop that she and Willo own. She tells him the little she knows. Willo had been in his workshop when she heard a cry and went in to see if Willo had hurt himself. She had found the room was but the only exit was the door to the store front. The group asks her permission to see the back room and she tearfully leads them to the door to the workshop. The room is neat and tidy and it appears that none of the tools are missing and no sign of a struggle.. However, a careful search of the room reveals an expert made hidden door in the far wall, a latch is triggered and the door silently opens into a small room with a locked exit. They kick the door simultaneously and the sill splits as the door pops open. he enters the door and finds himself in a small room with a locked exit. he kicks the door open and can't believe his eyes. They find themselves in a large hall and the walls are smooth and perfectly decorated. it is obvious that the hall and adjoining passages were magic made. A hush falls over the group as they each feel an evil presence as they gaze at the construction. Yet they are determined to go on, the hallways are followed and numerous spies and monsters are met. After the quiet streets, this is unexpected and the adventurers strive to keep their vigilance up. The paladins and cleric are busy healing the group from numerous war wounds but they continue to forge on never sure of what they may meet next. The group is attacked by a large group of stirges and mammoths. The party battles courageously and the battle is on but only Vet Vic is still able to continue, the others being grievously injured. He sends them back to the temple for rest and recuperation against their protests and continues on. He steps forward from the arena of battle the floor opens beneath him and he sent sliding down a long smooth dark passageway. He is unceremoniously dumped several hundred feet below his starting point and a door slides and locks across the tunnel he has slide down. Seeing there is only one way out Vet, goes through the door and encounters a large group of orcs and kauperfelts. A series of fireballs and a cloud kill eliminate the group and the warrior continues his search for an exit. Hearing a noise behind him he ducks into a quiet room and closes the door behind him (15, 12). He steps back into the dark room and realizes he is falling again as the room had no floor. This time the tunnel is more steep and longer and he take a hard fall at the end of the slide. Again a door slides across the exit of the tunnel . He exits the room and finds a long narrow passage with no exit. Remembering the craftsmanship from upstairs, Vet Vic inspects the walls and finds another hidden door. He enters a small temple and as he exits the far side a large open area is discovered. He hears a shout and turns to see a group of skeletons rushing at him. An undead spell takes care of the piles of bones and he cautiously continues across the open area to enter a doorway. The room is full of adventurers trying to slay Dracs. Vet Vic slides past the battle, intent only on finding Willo and enters a door on the far side. He quietly opens the door and sees a robed figure holding a knife to the neck of a broad shouldered man chained to the wall. The robed man is laughing insanely. Suddenly he feels the paladin's presence and turns to face him. He quickly yells a spell and several piles of bones come to life as skeleton . They are aided by a fire elemental and the battle begins. Luckily the warrior had globed himself so the evil mage's spells are ineffective and several minutes later the chamber is quiet. He releases the chained man and he looks at the warrior in awe. Finally he introduces himself as Willo, and explains his abduction. He is very observant and points out several inconsistencies in the dead mage including his origins and his daggers markings. Finally he explains that the evil magic user was forcing him to make a cheap quality weapon and the skeletons were imitating him. It doesn't make much sense that they should want inferior equipment and you make a note of it along with the other inconsistencies. As if reading your mind Willo pushes a button and a wall moves away and a stairway up to Willo's workroom is found. As you leave the area you take the dagger of striking form the dead mage as another piece of evidence for Lord Nasher. Being finished in Vilnask, he returns with the weapon to Neverwinter to check on the healing of the brave adventurers and to share the information with the mayor.. . The Summoning (submitted by: LafeL) The word was sent thru the streets of Neverwinter," The Mages of The Protectorate present a test of knowledge.Match wits with Boltthtrwr,Lafel and Star Aura;find their clues and solve their puzzles." Contestants rushed to the Gardens to sign up. The rules were explained and the contestants rode in the direction of Floodblest in search of Firef0rged. Time was passing along with no word that any of the competitors had found the "Frosted Mage". Alas!! PolRom found Fire and headed off to Port Llast, muttering something about switches. Hot on the trail of PolRom was DarkSavnt;but as Bolt and Lafel soon found out;the mystery of the switches was just that,a mystery. Poor Luthyen, sitting by the bridge, hoping to give some brownies out to the contestants for the energy needed to get them to Vilnask. At least she saw contestants; TP Crator had to retrieve the Dagger of Striking himself. The town clock rang out loud, signalling the time limit had come;yet no contestant completed the quest. The magelords conferred and decreed that PolRom and DarkSavnt would split the prizes. As they left the gardens, the three mages were heard laughing as Bolt said, " Next time Lafel, don't make it so easy." Lafel Star's Hubby TP Arch-SorcererThe Beginnings of a Hero - Part 4 (submitted by: TrueShield) Once, in a realm far far away from the mainlands of Faerun, there was a group of islands. They were unknown to all except for the few peoples who lived there. This is the story of one Darrian Trueshield, and his quest to find his place in the world and the long forgotten Isles of Windermere. Last time we left Darrian, and his companions, Darrian caught in a mysterious dream where he was trapped in the prison of an insane halfling's mind. Sarwin, Valik, and Griffin were in the fishermen's village when it was besieged by Kanusy's army. Did they survive? Now you will find out. Chapter Fourteen "Hunin! Hunin!" a young halfling screamed as he ran up to the old halfling priest. "Calm down my child. Take some deep breaths, and calm down." he said to soothe the crazed child. The child did so, pausing to take a few moments to catch his breath. "It's Tenh." he said. "What about him?" Hunin asked fearing that the now mad former priest had died. "He's sane," the child told Hunin whose face showed utter surprise, "He has somehow returned to sanity. I wouldn't believe it either, but I saw it with my own eyes. He even knows that the Trueshield is here." "Impossible. How can he know if he's here if... The Trueshield already knows how to use his gift! He has even discovered the truth he gaurds already. Amazing!" Hunin wispered to himself. His mind was a blurr with speculations, and theories. He had no idea of what he needed to do. "Wait," he said to himself, "I'll ask Tenh himself." knowing that Tenh was far older, and wiser the he. He ran over to a stone hut that had been the home to the mad priest for decades. The door was almost impossible to open because of great unuse. The roof had dozens of holes, and rats had taken residency long ago. A crowd had circled the hut. "Let me through!" he yelled while trying to battle his way through the crowd. The room hadn't changed at all over the years. The furniture was in the same place, and the candle lamp was still there. Nothing had changed except for the hundreds of cobwebs. "Hello Hunin," said the old wrinkled halfling, Tenh, "It's been a long time since I last saw you, and I understand your surprise. I was too for the first few minutes." "I can't believe it even though you're right in front of me, but here you are, totally sane for the first time in forty years. Though that's not why I came. I need to know what I should do with the Trueshield. You will not be able to ever leave this hut, but you can still advise me." Hunin said. "Give him the Bow of Iron, and let him go. He will learn the truth he gaurds soon enough, and there are others who need him right now. Last, we must get him away from this village, for in two days, it will be consumed by the shadow he must defeat." Tenh answered. Hunin then left the room with only a feeling of pity. For he knew that even when Tenh became sane, the runes of containment would never let him out of that room alive. ************************************************************ "Ooh my head!" Sarwin groaned in pain as he shifted his head on the rock that supported his head. "Stop whining you whimp. You aren't even scratched." Valik whispered. He had spent his last healing spells on Sarwin's fractured skull, and he was thourghly exausted from the tedious effort. Griffin walked up the hill the next moment with a large burlap bag slung over his shoulder. "Well, we lost our horses in the spell, but we still have most of our supplies." Griffin said to no one in particular. "Where have you been in the last ten hours? We had it half in our heads to come after you." Sarwin asked. "Don't worry about me. I can take care of myself, and you shouldn't be talking. If I had finished any later, you head would be on the pavement in a bloody paste." Griffin answered. "It feels that way," Sarwin responded, "but you still haven't answered my question." "Hey, where's my warhammer?" Valik screamed in urgency. He had had that hammer for twenty summers, and it was given to him by Razga, the man who convinced him to be a cleric of Torm. "It's right here," Griffin said pointing to the bag around his shoulder, "and so is your sword, Sarwin. I was enchanting your weapons using the teeth from that dracoliche we killed." "You charmed my sword!" Sarwin exclaimed as he lept to his feet so quickly that it seemed he wasn't injured. He charged up to Griffin, and picked the mage up by his collar. Valik stood up to defend Griffin from the enraged paladin when Griffin took up his own defense. Griffin touched the bracer on his arm, and it flared with a blue flame. It knocked Sarwin back five feet, and Griffin fell back on to his feet. "Sarwin, I know paladins find it dishonorable to fight with a magic weapon in some circumstances, and I know I didn't tell you, but we are fighting a superior opponent. You have seen the monsters that he has control of. He has firehounds, elementals, golems, dragons, and even dracoliches. Who knows what other dark, and demonous creatures he has. If we are to live to help others, we will have to do everything possible to win an advantage no matter how small," Griffin yelled at the top of his voice. Griffin then shook his head, and said, "I'm sorry for doing this without your knowing, and for that outburst." "There's no need my friend. It was my fault." Sarwin apologized. "Now that that is over, tell us what you did with our weapons." Valik said. "I placed three enchantments on each. First, placed a spell of ownership on both, so only you, or one who you want to wield it, can. Second, I enchanted them so they would never break, dull, or chip. The last enchantments are individual. For Valik's hammer, it gives him the strength of an arctic ogre which are stronger than our ogres. For Sarwin's sword, it gives the sword an actual magic edge so it can cut through armor better, and effect enemies like elements, spirits, golems, and so on." Griffin explained. "I thought it took years to enchant a weapon." Valik commented. "It does," Griffin answered, "but I didn't give it a power source, so that's why it took only ten hours. I enchanted them so they would rely on the power of your own spirit. It you have the smallest amount, the runes on the weapons will do the rest." "Well let's get going before Kanusy catches us again." Valik said as he picked up his newly enchanted hammer, and began to find a trail through Yinred Pass. ******************************************************************** Kanusy was in is war room preparing plans for the invasion of Neverwinter. When his two generals walked into the dimly lit room. "What do you want?" Kanusy asked. "We want to know what you want us to do about those three trouble makers, Sarwin, Griffin, and Valik." Freewin answered. "Don't bother me with such petty questions." Kanusy mumbled while fumbling with the set maps before him. "We know you are busy your excellancy, but they could be big trouble if we let them get away. I know Rettind was your brother Kanusy, but let it go. You musn't lose your vision, or you troops will too." Freewin replied. "Your right. Where are they right now?" Kanusy asked finally looking away from his maps. "They are in the third pass of the Yinred Pass, Sir. It intersects two of the other five passes, and if we let them, they could block those three with an avalanche easily. We suggest that we send someone, or something to exterminate them before they cause problems." the other general suggested. "First send twelve shadowssassins, and then send a remorhaz ahead of them. The shadowssassins will either kill them, or slow them down enough for the remorhaz to get ahead of them, and ambush them." Kanusy responded after a few moments of thought. "Yes Sir!" replied both generals who gave salute, and left the war room quickly. Kanusy then left the room to the temple. He saw his army's bonfires burning in the moonlight, and the huge lumps of darkness on the ground that was his monster hoard. Last, he saw the mountainous shadows to his right that insured his victory, and control of his monsters. His prized shadowlords, and pit fiends that lived to serve his every command for all eternity. He then looked south for his next target. A halfling village, and then on to the Yinred Pass. Then from there, his ultimate goal, Neverwinter. Then he laughed. Some say they heard the screams from the souls trapped by the Nightmare Serpent. Other said that in that moment, they were in the belly of the dreaded beast it self. Chapter Fifteen Darrian had a crushing migrane headache. "Anyone know what hit me?" he thought out loud. "I know." someone said. Darrian truned around, and found that Hunin was standing by the door. He saw the priest had a dark, grim face, and he was carring a man sized bow, and a quiver of arrows. "What's that for?" Darrian asked. "This is for you. You must leave us now because Kanusy shall attack this town in the morning, and I need to tell you something before you have to leave," Hunin said in a grim voice, "Your last name is Trueshield. It is both your name, and duty. It is your name for you were found an orphan with that armor. It is your duty for it is your duty to gaurd both the innocent, and a single truth." "What truth?" Darrian asked while trying vainly to hide the fact that he was stunned. "You will relize it soon enough for you have both learned, and used it." Hunin answered. With that, Hunin left Darrian to his thoughts, most questions, and few answers. With nothing else to do, he began packing when he decided to examine the bow Hunin left him. He had been a ranger all his life, and had been able to recieve some druid spells from the spirits of the land he cared for. Using one of those spells, he found that both the bow, and arrows were enchanted, but not to what extent. Be could tell that the bow was a fine long bow, the best kind known to mortals, but not what kind of wood. He pulled back the bowstring, and felt very litte pressure, but he could see the bowstring quivering under some immense force. He released the string, and it moved at an impossible speed. Then, he knew. "It's ironwood!" he screamed. He then placed the bow across his back, and finsihed packing. Almost on que, a halfling walked in the door and said, "'It is time for you to leave, Sir Trueshield. We have a horse ready, and your friends are in the Yinred Pass. Good luck." Then he left. Darrian walked out to his horse, and waved goodbye. He then set off to find Griffin, and Valik in the Yinred Pass. ************************************************************ "It's not good." Valik reported to his friends. "What's wrong?" Sarwin asked. "The pass was taken out by a recent mudslide. It will take another two days to pass through, but two weeks for Kanusy." Valik answered. "How's that?" Sarwin asked. "Since two other passes intersect this one, we can start an avalanche, and block out all three passes because of the mudslide." Valik answered. "Sarwin, come over here." Griffin called out. Sarwin came to the rocky ridge that Griffin was peering over, and saw three totally black figures. "What are they?" Griffin ask. "Shadowssassins, and they are serious trouble," he answered, "How many are there?" "There are twelve total, and with the way they are positioned, we will have to fight them." Griffin said. "Valik, take the southeast flank. I'll cover the north end. Griffin, stay in the middle, and use magic indirectly because they are ninty percent magic immune. Last thing, their weapons are always poisoned so beware of even the smallest scratch." Sarwin instructed. Suddenly, all the shadows were visible. They were chrging full speed, totally oblivious of the heavy plate mail they were wearing. Everyone of them was pitch balck, even their weapons. The wore black cloaks, hoods, and they all carried a small armoury on them. Valik met the first one. He raised his hammer for a downward stroke, and his foe lifted his sword to meet it. Valik twisted his wrist, and brought the hammer out, and around to hit his foe's side. The strength that the hammer gave him not only crushed through the thing's armor, but sent it flying over the side of the ridge into a ravine. Sarwin had the second foe. He raised his sword, and their blades clanged together. Their blades became locked together, and it was a contest of strength. Sarwin ended it with a kick that sent the shadow's knee backward so the bone stuck out the back of its knee. Sarwin spun around with his sword under his shoulder. Its runes flared as it sliced through the plate armor into his chest. Sarwin heard his next foe's feet, and he spun around with his sword fully extended. The shadow raised his axe to protect his neck, but Sawrin crouched to his knees, and held the blade out. The shadow's momentum carried him into the blade, and the runes on it flared. The blade sunk to the hilt, and the blade could be seen out of its back. Sarwin pulled out his blade, and took assessment of the situation. Griffin was invisible, and Valik was gasping for breath after starting a mini - avalanche with his hammer. The other shadowssassins were nowhere to be seen. Then, with a flash of light, and Griffin was visible again. "Where are they?" Sarwin asked. "They're in that ridge ahead of us setting an ambush. There's no way around it." Griffin said. "How many?" Valik asked. "Seven since your avalanche killed two of those shadows." Griffin answered. "Kanusy sent those things to slow us down, not to kill us. What is he up to?" Sarwin asked. ________________________________________________________________________ Next time, will Darrian find his friends, will Griffin, Sarwin, and Valik survive the ambush, and will they find out what city Kanusy plans to attack before it's too late? Find out next time.Of a White Flower (Continued) (submitted by: Luthyen) Luthyen retired from the good company at Striders and walked across the meadow to Castle Stalker. The Kobolds had been cleared out, and the kitchens were busy, as always. After checking the activity there, she arranged the grouping of 5 flowers which Bracht had given her. Then she ascended to her tower room to think a while. Sitting by the window, she looked out over the road to the north, where Gambit had gone out of her life. It had not been that long..but already there were many who were wanting to seek her hand. It was a mystery to her...she was not seeking another love, she was just being herself...and yet they kept coming, writing Dad, inquiring about how to court her.. She liked them, those who called upon her...but..she just liked them, and that was all. She cared for them as brothers, and enjoyed them as people, for the special talents and gifts they brought to the Guild...but her heart was not touched. How to tell them, though..that was the difficulty..for she na'er wanted to hurt anyone.... Luthyen rose, and paced across the room..pausing by the window sill by her bed. There in a tall crystal vase, were the roses with a white stripe which Swordshere had sent her. On the table by her bed rested the crystal bowl with the White Lily which Thorn Hawk had fetched for her, at such cost to himself..and here she paused, because, truth be told, these two had touched her heart..one a brother she cared deeply for, and the other as something more..someone who could be something more. She grinned as she thought about Swordshere and his War Hawk. They were a pair, those two. Swordie had been there for her, one of the first, when Gambit left, and when the terrible news of Gambit's loss came. He was very dear to her...her brother. With a single finger she stroked the Water Lilly, seeing again Thorn's face as he told her how the lilly symbolized love, and love lost, to him. And then he had fetched her this one..he had given her this part of his heart. And as she gazed at it, she realized she had given him hers as well... Luthyen mounted Midnight, and rode from the gates of Stalker in haste. The Woods..twas where she would seek him..by the Lake of the Lillies...Last Lament (submitted by: Bracht) I have been asked by a friend if I would send this song to ye.
